8-Week Course - Wednesdays
8-Week Ceramics Course (Beginners & Improvers)
Thursdays, 6:00–8:30pm | 15th January – 5th March 2026
Location: Common Clay Studio
This 8-week course is designed for beginners and improvers who are keen to explore the world of hand-built ceramics, with an introduction to throwing on the wheel included. It’s a great way to learn and practise a variety of ceramic techniques in a friendly, supportive environment.
The focus of the course is on hand building — you’ll learn techniques such as coiling, slab building, and pinch forming to create functional and sculptural pieces. We’ll also cover surface decoration, texture, and glazing methods to help you personalise your work.
As part of the course, you’ll also get a chance to try your hand at the potter’s wheel. While the emphasis is on hand building, we’ll spend a couple of sessions introducing basic throwing techniques so you can experience both approaches and see how they complement each other.
Whether you're starting from scratch or building on existing experience, you'll be guided step-by-step, with plenty of individual support along the way.
What’s included:
8 weekly sessions (2.5 hours each)
Expert guidance in hand building techniques with an introduction to wheel throwing
Use of all tools, equipment, and studio facilities
All clay, glazes, and kiln firings
A relaxed and inclusive creative environment
By the end of the course, you'll have created a collection of unique, glazed ceramic pieces — and gained skills and confidence to continue developing your practice.
