8-Week Course - Mondays Beginners
8-Week Ceramics Course (Beginners)
Mondays, 10am - 12.30pm | 12th January – 2nd March 2026
Location: Common Clay Studio, Bexhill
This 8-week course is perfect for complete beginners who are curious about working with clay and want to explore the creative possibilities of hand building, with a gentle introduction to the potter’s wheel included.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn a range of traditional hand building techniques — including coiling, slab building, and pinch forming — to create both functional and decorative ceramic pieces. We’ll also cover surface decoration and glazing, giving you the chance to experiment with texture, pattern, and colour.
While the main focus is on hand building, you’ll also be introduced to the basics of wheel throwing during a couple of sessions — just enough to give you a feel for the process and experience the joy (and challenge!) of working on the wheel.
No prior experience is needed — this is a relaxed, supportive environment where you can take your time, ask questions, and enjoy learning something completely new.
What’s included:
8 weekly sessions (2.5 hours each)
Step-by-step guidance in hand building and a taster of throwing
All materials, tools, and equipment provided
Firings included
A welcoming studio environment for beginners
By the end of the course, you’ll have made a small collection of your own ceramic pieces — from mugs and bowls to sculptural forms — ready to take home.
