Ceramics Taster Class – Hand Building for Complete Beginners

Curious about clay but not sure where to start? This relaxed and hands-on taster session is the perfect introduction to ceramics for complete beginners.

Over the course of this 2.5-hour class, you'll get the chance to explore the basics of hand building with clay in a welcoming and creative environment. With step-by-step guidance, you'll learn simple but effective techniques such as pinch pots and slab building — ideal for making small bowls, cups, or sculptural forms. There's no pressure to make anything perfect — this is a chance to play, experiment, and get a feel for the material.

Along the way, you’ll also learn a bit about the ceramic process — from working with raw clay to firing and glazing — and gain a better understanding of what’s involved in making pottery from start to finish.

After the class, we’ll glaze and fire your favourite piece(s) for you. They’ll be ready to collect from the studio approximately 6 weeks later.

This class is suitable for total beginners — no previous experience is needed, just a willingness to get your hands dirty and try something new!
